It doesn't matter where the model is. The model just needs to specify where the textures are via the material name. I just use textures/mymap/ for all my textures including the textures for models and models/mymap for all my models. I don*t include the latter folder in my pk3. Nice and simple.

A dedicated game editor would be preferable but it's probably not a practical solution because it would take more time to develop than the game itself. Cool, I like the idea and the style.
