Custom Map Makers

So I want to make a custom Skybox like the one Johnny made for his Pirates map. How do you make such nice looking water in 3ds?? I think i can figure out most of the rest on my own but I want to know how to make some really nice water like the stuff Johnny made for his skybox.

I was lucky and used the standard "ground water" material supplied with my version of max
