Olympic / Challenge map -- needs ideas/mappers

Post by johnnyenglish »

I'll keep this pretty vague, no names but some time ago a competitive league organiser suggested a map to me which could be used for an annual competition for either single players or teams.

The idea is that the competitor would progress through a training course completing tasks like target shooting, simple jumps, swimming (whatever) against the clock.

I've so far build a couple of "concept" or demonstration maps and a server side bot which handles the timing and saving the scores/times in a simple database.

This video shows how the bot works, the competitor needs to type "ready" to alert the bot and identify the competitor, the timer starts when the player crosses the start line --

So now, I don't really want to build the entire map, I'd prefer to make this a CMM map, members can make one challenge room each and I'll join them all together.

The map will need to be made in secret but I'm just posting here to see if anyone else is interested in building this thing with me.

If you don't have time/enthusisam for mapping -- do you have any ideas for competition events? Post them here if you do.

PM me if you'd like to be involved in this project - here's a few ideas I've put in a test map...

THIS IS ONLY A DEMONSTRATION MAP, the final will look a lot better.

Amazing Work, and I am interested. Though I would be hopeless at creating something like this

1)
A mind field. So basically there will be areas that if they step, they will be killed and sent to the start of the mine field
2)
Have a tall brush and around it (clockwise) will be ledges that will be higher as they go. So the player has to reach the top
3)
i saw that water jumping one
but what about having a timer
so if they are on the mad for too long it sinks, or they teleport back to start
like you could have it so it sinks into the water, and they are killed by piranhas
